Option 1: Tailscale (Recommended)

Tailscale is built on WireGuard and requires zero configuration. It creates a private IP address for each of your devices.

1. Install on Desktop

Download and install Tailscale on the machine running your Relay Engine.

2. Install on Mobile

Install the Tailscale app on your iOS or Android device and sign in with the same account.

3. Connect in Relay

Open the Tailscale app on your phone and copy the Tailscale IP of your desktop (starts with 100.x.y.z).

In the Relay App, go to Settings > Host Address and enter that IP.

Option 2: ZeroTier

ZeroTier is another excellent mesh VPN that works like a virtual ethernet switch.

1. Create a Network

Go to my.zerotier.com and create a new network. Copy the Network ID.

2. Join on Devices

Desktop: Install ZeroTier and join the Network ID.
Mobile: Install the ZeroTier One app and join the same Network ID.

3. Authorize & Connect

In your ZeroTier dashboard, check the Auth box for both devices to authorize them. Use the Managed IP of your desktop in the Relay App settings.

Why not Port Forwarding?

We strongly advise against opening ports on your router (Port Forwarding) to access Relay. without exposing it to the open internet and potential scanners.
